I feel like she doesn't only appeal to older ladies, but youmger girls! Cassadee Pope began her first-ever solo tour along the two coasts of the United States. She delivered a powerful combination of lyrics and vocals for every number in her set list and punctuated these tunes with descriptions of the songs' origins and several "fun facts" about her day that reflected her sweet, caring demeanor.
After playing several songs from Hey Monday, a band in which she is the lead singer, Cassadee performed a number of new songs that she wrote as an individual artist.
She requested that members of the audience provide feedback about these tunes, so I'll add some here. These songs sent chills down my spine. The creative use of acoustic instruments guitar, violin, and percussion as a substitute for more traditional rock band support only accentuated the impressive dynamic and tonal range of her voice.
Towards the end of her act, Cassadee included several songs that fans had requested for the show. She even stopped mid-performance -- just as she was beginning the first verse -- in order to offer a dedication for the song that an audience member had requested. After her last song, Cassadee invited a young girl on stage and asked her about the performance. Such kind gestures to her fans show the extent to which Cassadee appreciates their support.
I would highly recommend seeing this blossoming artist at any venue. Her strong stage presence is matched only by a disposition that will put a smile on any audience member's face instantly. I cannot wait to attend another one of her performances. Read more. Report as inappropriate. In a male dominated genre, it is important people support pure female country talent such as Cassadee Pope. The young musician has only been working the circuit for a relatively short time when you consider the history of country yet she is already leaving her mark with sensitive lyrics and a bright, breezy crossover sound between country and pop.
Although her stature may be small, she casts an authoritative figure onstage with an arresting vocal that has true range and emotion. The setlist demonstrates her versatility as an artist and alludes to the places she could possibly take her music in the future. With a sense of humour and winning laugh, she wins over her audience almost instantly as she chats with great humility between breaks in the songs.
With a number one album under her belt and singalong anthems including 'Wasting All These Tears' and 'I Wish I Could Break Your Heart' this exciting musical story seems to have just begun and Cassadee seems to be a very capable narrator.
Cassadee is a great high energy performer who puts on a good show. If you like her music you should definitely go see her. If you don't know her music you should check her out. She is a season 3 Voice winner and she started out doing edgy Avril Lavinge type stuff, but after having Blake Shelton for a coach she ended up singing more country stuff, but still with that edgy-rock inspired feel. On the production side of things, I knew exactly the style I was going for.
I wanted the album to sound like an emo-country acoustic record, almost as if Hey Monday did an acoustic record. Todd was all about it, and he nailed the guitar parts!
We did post-production on FaceTime, where he played the parts he was hearing to make sure that I liked it, and we were going in the right direction before he recorded them. Then, in the studio, when I went into cut vocals, it was just two days of cutting lead and harmonies for all eight songs. I tested out a few microphones and chose the one that I felt complimented my voice and added more warmth to it.
It was an immersive process, even though it was much shorter than the usual process of doing a full-band project. But it was still gratifying and a great experience. But, the next project will be a full-band situation. So I felt acoustic for right now is a nice compliment to where we are in the world.
You and boyfriend, singer-songwriter Sam Palladio, seem to have such a strong relationship. Was it strange reflecting on situations with an ex for this project? Sam is a songwriter, so he understands the importance of reflecting when singing songs. We both have been through a lot in our own ways, and I will probably never stop writing about my first love and my first heartbreak.
Sam understands that. He knows the whole story and everything. Can you tell us more about that song? That song was about a person in my life, who no matter how much I tried and how much traveling I did, or how many new memories I created, that person was still, very much in my heart, and on my brain.
I remember before the session that I was trying to think of things that change the shape of something. You know, like welding. I felt, for a while, that people were trying to do that to me because of my past in rock music or just me as a person. So I felt for a long time that people were trying to shape me into a more likable, easy to swallow, kind of pill.
So when I brought in the idea of sandpaper to Alex [Kline] and Shane [Stevens], they got it right away. So we went the whole way with that word, and it has some angst to it, which I love. I think I had a little bit more trust as far as taking the reins on things for this project. The last project was my first independent project. So it was a big deal for me to step out of the label and the publishing I had before and to do a project that I believed in so much.
I wasn't doing that for like a week and a half or so because it's just been all album promo, and I'd not made the time for it. Why don't feel like myself? I was like, 'Oh, I've been starving my soul from this kind of dialogue. In an effort to help others amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic , Pope, 30, released her acoustic record Rise and Shine in full on Friday. On its title track, she hopes to bring a dialogue about mental health forward.
So I hope 'Rise And Shine' is one of those songs that gives them hope and lets people know, 'Hey, through the darkest times we can get through it and we can find meaning in those times and really use it to our advantage.
It's a message Pope had to learn herself throughout the years, as she worked through mental health struggles like abandonment issues. I think I brought that into my life now where I have this overbearing sense of: I need to be interesting enough and good enough and funny enough and entertaining enough for people to stick around. When someone leaves, especially someone that influential to you and that important in your life, you take that with you through everything.
Though therapy has helped her work through those issues, Pope admits she's still a work in progress. Most of the time, the lack of self-worth and the lack of confidence are stories that I'm telling myself. So it's definitely a journey and it's still something I struggle with, but at least now I have the tools to talk myself out of it.
Pope says her boyfriend of two years, Nashville alum Sam Palladio , has also been a huge support. So you also need a partner to kind of help you with it too. I'm very lucky that I have that. On her new song "California Dreaming," about somebody who "really" hurt her in the past, Pope enlisted Palladio, 33, to sing the backup vocals. It was really fun to get in the studio together. We've done stuff at the house and sang together and done virtual shows together, but we've never actually gone in a studio and recorded something officially.
So it's exciting, and it's one of my favorite songs. On the song "Sand Paper," Pope addresses a time in her life when people were telling her who to be and how to sing.
